Zoë had a great birthday. Now to plan her sleepover party with her friends in a few weeks. Sadie had some birthday envy and tears were shed as Zoë opened all of her own presents (how dare she) but I figure that's a lesson Sadie has to learn. Doesn't make it any easier.
My dear friend, Melodie supplied the recipe for this year's birthday cake. Zoë had requested an icing-less cake and just a few days before, Melodie had been telling me about this wonderful cake she makes for her daughter who, like Zoë, is anti-frosting. Here's the recipe:
1 box Duncan Hines Devil's Food cake mix
1 small box chocolate pudding
1 12oz bag semi-sweet chocolate chips
2 eggs
1 1/4 cup water
1/4 cup oil
Mix it all together and pour in a prepared 9 x 13 pan and bake at 350 for 35 minutes.
It was divine but definitely one of those that you can only have a very small piece of. It was after my first forkful that I started to plan my chocolate intervention for Melodie. That was interrupted by Sadie who, upon finishing up her piece of cake, was demanding a second and who also woke up this morning with her first words being "more chocolate happy birthday cake please Mommy". Oh no. My monkey has a monkey on her back! Yikes.

My mouth is watering. ;-)~ Funny, Josie just told me this week that she doesn't really like store frosting, only my homeade (aka duncan hines). Yumm! Enjoy your cake! pam
