We eat with our eyes first

That's why I've invested in opaque glasses

My kid's don't like vegetables. Again ... I'm not lame enough to believe I'm the only parent with this problem but I have had a glorious weekend with no food struggles and both sides have come out a winner. Yes, I've invested in the Sneaky Chef and Mrs. Seinfeld's book and have taken away a few hints here and there but on my routine blog reading I ran across the wonder that is the green smoothie. Trust me folks, this is one good smoothie and it is good for you. There are several different varieties out there but here is my recipe that works in my okay but not great blender and with stuff I generally have on hand:

1 apple cored and quartered

1 banana

1 3/4 cups pure pressed apple juice (I use Simply Apple)

2-3 cups baby spinach

1-2 cups frozen fruit (I use strawberries and mangoes)

I blend the first 3 ingredients and then add in the spinach until it is liquefied and then add in the frozen fruit. Even though this has no yogurt in it, it tastes like it does. I have kale in the fridge waiting to be incorporated but the baby spinach has such a mild taste to it that it is easily masked. Now, I did have to invest in some dark, opaque glasses because while this tastes really good, it looks like ... well - not very appetizing. Zoƫ now knows what she is drinking but I waited until she downed her first one before I told her. I'm not sure I'll ever tell Sadie. Heck, I just had one for my dinner. Figure we all need a way to get in more veggies and if you don't, I regret to inform you that you are no longer my friend.

We got those books for our niece/nephew, they work wonders! For some reason we managed to get the kids who will actually try new things.
