I recently checked my e-mail only to discover a cryptic message from an alumni site I had registered with last year for my 20 year high school reunion. Kimberly Mott was looking for me. Kimberly came into my life in 5th grade ... the exact same age as Zoë is now. We exchanged e-mails and phone numbers and immediately chatted on the phone and filled one another in on the past 17 years. We made a play date to meet up at the Houston Zoo with our kids and had a great morning. In my adult life, I seem to surround myself with late sleepers while me and my early bird children twiddle our thumbs waiting for our friends to wake up. Kimberly and her lot are early risers like us. Yeah for the early birds. Foolish thing came to the zoo with no camera so I took advantage of having mine and snapped an unsuspecting photo of her. Her little girl was much smarter and treated me like so much paparazzi scum and refused my attempts to take her picture. She's cute as a bug though. She has a very handsome son to boot. It's weird to see her all grown up. Even though I saw her regularly well into our college days, in my mind's eye she is always 5th grade Kim Mott with the frosted rainbow eyeshadow and the massive crush on Grant Larson. Here are some shots from that day.
Kimberly (who is dragging me into the MySpace thing kicking and screaming)
Poor stressed Sadie ... some birds were flying away and she thought they were running away. I think it is cruel of the free birds to come into the zoo to mock the zoo inhabitants, personally.
My girls ... 5th grade Sherry Chaney never imagined she would wind up to be so thoroughly blessed with kids like these.
